"Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7
In the verses before verse 7, we are told to humble ourselves under his mighty hand, that he may exalt us in due time. He is always accomplishing his sovereign purpose for us. (John MacArthur Study Bible notes)
A reference to casting is found in Psalm 55:22: "Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved." Casting means to "throw something on something." We're not just throwing something at a void. We aren't throwing something at nothing. We are truly throwing our burden upon our Lord. John MacArthur's Study Bible refers to it "as to throw a blanket on a donkey." (Luke 19:35) We are to "cast all of (our) discontent, discouragement, despair, and suffering on the Lord, and trust Him for knowing what he's doing with (our) lives." (John MacArthur Study Bible Notes) When we are casting, we are trusting in Him.
The end of verse 7 states that "He cares for us." Let that sink in today. Not only are we told to throw our worries and cares upon Him, for He will carry it for us, but we are reminded that it is because He cares for us. The Creator of the Universe, Who knows us by name and loves us so tremendously, cares about our troubles.
I pray today, this message gives you encouragement and hope in trusting Him through casting your cares upon Him.
